The short version

This Privacy Policy explains what information Local Vote Research collects, how it is used, and your rights regarding that information. By using the Service, you agree to the practices described in this policy.

2. How We Use Your Information

We use the information we collect solely to provide and improve the Service:

  • To generate your personalized voting guide based on your questionnaire responses and profile context.
  • To identify the races relevant to your location and present only those candidates in your guide.
  • To store your guide so you can access it again without regenerating it.
  • To send you account-related emails, such as email confirmation and password reset messages.
  • To understand how the Service is used in aggregate, so we can improve it over time.

We do not use your data for advertising, political outreach, fundraising, voter targeting, or any purpose unrelated to generating your guide.

3. How Your Data Is Processed by AI

Local Vote Research uses artificial intelligence to generate your voting guide. This means your questionnaire answers and personal context are sent to a third-party AI provider (Anthropic, PBC) to produce your guide. Please be aware of the following:

  • Your questionnaire responses and personal context are transmitted to Anthropic's API as part of the guide generation process. Anthropic processes this data according to its own privacy policy and API usage terms.
  • Anthropic's current API terms prohibit training models on API inputs submitted through production applications. We rely on these terms to protect your data, but we encourage you to review Anthropic's privacy policy at anthropic.com for the most current information.
  • The AI uses your values and priorities to score candidates and write recommendations. This processing happens at the time your guide is generated and is not retained by Anthropic beyond the scope of the API call.
  • No special category data (such as race, religion, or health information) is requested or required. If you choose to include such information in free-text fields, it will be processed by the AI as part of your guide generation.

4. What We Do Not Do With Your Data

We want to be explicit about how your data is not used:

  • We do not sell your data to any third party.
  • We do not share your questionnaire answers, political values, or guide content with any candidate, campaign, political party, political action committee, or advocacy organization.
  • We do not use your data to build advertising profiles or target you with political advertising.
  • We do not share your data with data brokers or voter file vendors.
  • We do not display third-party advertisements on the Service.
  • We do not share your personal information with any third party except as described in Section 5 or as required by law.
